Rice is the single most important commercial crop, as it is the main source of nourishment for atleast half the world’s population. It is one of the most important grains with regard to human nutrition and calorie intake, providing more than one-fifth of the calories consumed by humans.

While all the 3 parts of the grain are edible (Bran, Endosperm and Germ)- the processing operations involve removing the Bran and the Germ. This milling helps in improving storage quality of the grain and reduces the rancidity. The milling process and aw material determine the final product that comes out of the processing line.
